The Amazon makes up 60% of the country in Peru and Iquitos is the gateway into the Peruvian Amazon.

It’s the largest city in the world that can’t be reached by road so the only options are by boat and by air.

The journey began in Lima where we could take a two-hour flight to get to Iquitos.

The Promenade along the Amazon River where we can see the beautiful sunset in the evening.

Walking around the town there are many stray cats They are super friendly but also quite skinny.

To get to the Amazon the first drive to the city of Nauta from there another two-hour boat ride to reach Amazon Lodge.

The Amazon in Peru holds many superlatives, it’s the second-largest rainforest and the largest river in the world making it one of the most biodiverse regions of the planet.

The view during the boat ride was beautiful we could see many animals along the way.

The Amazon river dolphins were especially playful swimming by us many times.

There is a small Lodge inside the middle of the Amazon jungle, a local community living close to the river, the community is small but fully equipped with stores and even a school.

The coconut juice here is also as fresh as it gets after that we can continue our boat ride looking for animals.

The Amazon came in, it is quite difficult to see anything with an untrained eye and in the dark.

We can walk easily into the jungle and we can find some huge trees with vines, we can see small fish jumping out of the river. The river was abundant with fish.

  1. Iquitos  

Iquitos is a beautiful city and the largest metropolis city in the Peruvian Amazon. Iquitos is also known as the “Capital of the Peruvian Amazon”.

Iquitos will be welcomed by the bustling energy of this city the best way to get around the city is by Tuk Tuks. It has been claimed that this place was inhabited by Amerindians for thousands of years.

According to Spanish history, it has been claimed that Iquitos City was established around 1757 on the banks of the Nanay River.

The charms of Iquitos are best appreciated by a walk around the town center and will be transported back in time with tiled colonial buildings built.

It was built by European settlers who came to Iquitos during the rubber boom at the beginning of the 20th century. It also happens that people were celebrating the pride parade that day.

There is one of the most beautiful places in The Plaza de Armas,  The bustling Town Squares filled with locals and tourists alike.

Puerto Maldonado is the main (capital) city of the Madre de Dios region in southeast Peru which is 183 meters above sea level.

We can see a large number of national parks that are established to protect natural resources.

Some of the famous places to visit in Puerto Maldonado are Mariposario Tambopata, Amazon Shelter, Carlos, Expeditions, Obelisco, and so on.

  3. Manu National Park  

Manu National Park is a famous park that is located in Amazon, Peru. Manu National Park was established during the dictatorship of General Juan Velasco by decree on 29 May 1973.

Manu National Park was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1977. The climatic condition of this park is highly variable, rainy, and depends on the elevation.

Inside this park, we can find 160 species of mammals, more than 1000 species of birds, 165 species of amphibians, and 132 species of reptiles.

It is a famous national park and biosphere reserve located in Peru. In Spanish Manu National Park is known as “Parque Nacional del Manú”.

  4. Yasuní National Park  

Yasuni National Park is a national park that is located in the Amazon rainforest of Peru. In Spanish Peru is also called “Parque Nacional Yasuní”.

This park is also considered as the most diverse spot in the earth. The overall area covered by this park is 9,823 km2 (3,799 square miles).

Yasuni National Park was established to protect Indigenous peoples and wildlife from environmental and cultural exploitation.

Yasuni National Park is also known as the “Untouchable Zone”.
