Aung San Suu Kyi is a  Burmese politician, diplomat, and author. She was born on June 19, 1945(age 77). She is also known to the world by the name of Suu Kyi. She is also known as the ” Leader of Democracy” in Myanmar. The name of Suu Kyi’s father is Aung San and her mother is Da Khin Kyi.  She grew up with her mother and brother. She was the third child in her family. Her father  Aung San is also known as the “Father of the Nation in Myanmar”. Aung San Suu Kyi was aware of the political condition of Myanmar since childhood.

Aung San Suu Kyi was the great prayer of Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi and was following their policy since childhood. She was disciplined, well-mannered, and a peace lover from her childhood. Aung San Suu Kyi is famous in the world for her struggle to bring democracy to Myanmar. Aung San Suu Kyi completed her school-level education at Methodist English High School. At that time her mother was the Ambassador of India and Nepal(1960)so she brought Aung San Suu Kyi with her to India. She studied at the Convent of Jesus and Marry School in New Delhi and graduated from Lady Shri Ram College(University of New Delhi) with a degree in politics in 1964. After that, she studied at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, and obtained a B. A degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics in 1967. After then she started living with her friends in New York City with her family friends. Although she was living outside Myanmar she always used to think about joining the politics in Myanmar. She also became the State Counselor in Myanmar for some time. While living there she started meeting with Burmese politicians, diplomats, and government officers who were retired. She started getting involved in political meetings and programs. She also worked in an office in the United States in London.

She also worked at the Bodian University of London as a manager of Burmese philosophy. In this journey, she met her future husband Dr. Micheal Aris and then they started working together they got married on 1 January 1972 and started living together. The following year she gave birth to her first child Alexander Aris and her second child Kim Aris in 1977. At that time they were staying in London but they were teaching their children Burmese Culture and Tradition. After then they visited some countries like Bhutan, Japan, and Nepal. Their main objective to visit these countries was to know about Buddhist culture and tradition. After this, she stayed in London for some time and focused on their children’s studies. At that time she wrote some articles like “Let’s Visit Japan”, “Let’s Visit Bhutan”, “Let’s Visit Nepal” and so on.

At that time her mother was retired from the post of ambassador and she returned to Myanmar. Aung San Suu Kyi was staying in London at that time. After that her mother became ill and she returned to Myanmar in 1988. While she came to take care of her ill mother, there was no peace in the country and many students died in the fight. At this time she was more worried about those students and innocent people who died in the fight rather than her mother. After her husband died in 1999 as he was suffering from prostate cancer. Her last meeting with her husband was in 1995. She also worked for the Government of the Union of Burma. At the time of the fight in the country concerning the meeting of people in Swedagon located in Pyagoda, she announced that she had opened a new party called National League for Democracy” and had entered the field of politics. After that, she started awaring people about the importance of democracy in Myanmar. The military troops of Myanmar accused her in the case of interrupting the peace in Myanmar and put her in under house prison. From then up to now, she is not allowed to meet her relatives, children, and other people. Altogether she has stayed in under-house prison for more than 20 years. After she was put in an under-house prison the people of Myanmar started doing a strike and asking the military government to make her free from under-house prison.

The citizen was asking the military government to give the work to the political party of Aung San Suu Kyi, to set her free, and to do a general election. The military government of Myanmar was unable to handle this strike. To control the strike of the country the military government decided to do a general election and the party of Aung San Suu Kyi won the election but the government was not ready to hand over the government work to the party. After this incident, this matter became worldwide all the national and international parties, and the government were also on the side of Suu Kyi. Seeing her struggle to bring democracy to Myanmar she was awarded with Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. This prize also helped her to stay calm and peaceful at under house prison. She was following all the rules and regulations of the government and listened to the order of the court. Due to the pressure of the national and international governments and the United Nations Organization(UNO) on the evening of 13 November 2010, she was set free from under-hose arrest along with all political prisoners. After she was out from under house arrest she again started to visit the politicians and diplomats. As she was still working for democracy the military government of Myanmar still trying to torture her mentally but she didn’t lose hope so easily. All the people were suggesting her leave the field of politics but she was targeting her aim without listening to other people. During her political programs, meetings, and so on many people tried to kill her. She is still struggling to bring democracy to Myanmar.  Her struggle to bring democracy to Myanmar is unbelievable. Will she be able to bring the policy of non-violence and democracy to Myanmar?
