Machu Picchu: Journey

 

✔ Most people start their journey to Machu Picchu from Cusco Peru the fastest and most comfortable way to get to Machu Picchu is by train and it takes around three hours.

✔ The most beautiful village called Machu Picchu was discovered by Agustin Lizarraga and archaeologists Hiram Bingham in 1450.

✔ In the Quechua language, Machu means “old person” and Picchu means “pyramid”. Thus, this site is also sometimes known as the “old mountain”.

✔ Then take the train from Oyente Tambo to Machu Picchu this is what I did and I booked the Peru Rail Vista Dome from Oyente Tombow to Machu Picchu once.

✔ I was at the train station there is a very elaborate announcement about the passengers to get on board.

✔ The seating area of the train is beautiful with huge windows for looking at the views, and the train winds.

✔ It’s way through the stunning sacra valley passing by mountain streams and small villages on the way.

✔ You can also go to the end of the train which is an old-style train cart with a beautiful view.

✔ After a few minutes, the train staff invited everyone inside as they put on the dance of the Sakura, it’s a traditional dance frequently performed in the Cusco region.

✔ I was having so much fun that the next thing, I knew we arrived in the town of Aguas Calientes.

✔ The town itself is very beautiful surrounded by mountains and clouds you can find your typical Peruvian markets here and also many street food vendors.

✔ There is something about fried chicken that beats the spot. The official name of Machu Picchu is the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

✔ I arrived at Machu Picchu after a short ride, it won’t be too long before you can already see Machu Picchu in the distance.

✔ Machu Picchu is so famous because it’s the best-preserved citadel of the mighty Inca Empire during the 15th Century.

Inca Empire was the largest in the world extending across South America from Quito to Santiago however during the Spanish Conquest.

✔ They destroyed almost every Inca building in the Cusco region and build a Spanish city over the old foundations.

✔ Machu Picchu was spared most likely because of its strategic location in the high mountains.

✔ It was never found by the Spanish as you walk around the site you will see a variety of structures including temples palaces and lots of llamas.

✔ It is still unclear what Machu Picchu’s original purpose was, some experts believe it was a royal Estate.

✔ While others think it was a center for religious or astronomical study, you will often see small animals that resemble rabbits around the ruins they are called Viscatchers.

✔ Residents of the Citadel one of the most impressive structures is the Intiwantana a stone pillar that served as a sundial you will also see several Terence.

✔ The Incas were master farmers and used advanced Techniques like Terence farming to grow corn and potato in the high mountains.

✔ Machu Picchu was so well preserved because it was built with a technique called ashlar where stones are cut and stacked together like puzzle pieces without any mortal.

✔ It’s so well together not even a knife blade can fit in between stones even though I have seen many pictures of Machu Picchu.

✔ I can truly say that pictures don’t do it justice every brick and every structure is a testament to the engineering and architectural skills of the Inca civilization.

✔ It was an incredibly surreal experience and walking around Machu Picchu you can’t help but feel like you have been transported back in time to the stunning view of Machu Picchu.

✔ The surrounding mountains and valleys are simple. It has been estimated that about 750 people lived there who lived there permanently.

✔ According to scientific research study and research, it has been estimated that the skeletal remains, of most people who lived there were immigrants from diverse backgrounds.

✔ It has been claimed that animals also migrated to Machu Picchu. It is one of the most important and famous archaeological sites that is located in South America.

✔ It is considered one of the most visited and important tourist destinations in Latin America and the most visited in Peru.

✔ If you have time I highly recommend visiting some of the amazing time towns in the sacred valley:

  • Urubamba
  • Pisac
  • Maras
  • Moray
  • Ollantaytambo

✔ Some of the most famous and important tourist destinations, archaeological sites, and so on located around this village are mentioned below:

 

  Urubamba  

✔ Urubamba is a small beautiful town that is located near the Urubamba River in the Highlands of Peru.

✔ In the Quechua language, Urubamba is also called “Urupampa” which means “Flat land of Spiders”.

✔ Urabamab is one of the most beautiful towns located in Peru. Around this market, we can see a large number of beautiful traditional markets.

✔ Urubamba is also considered the biggest town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

✔ It has been claimed that Urubamba was a farming area highly valued by the Incas for its fertile lands.

✔ Some of the interesting things to do around this town are Hang-gliding, paragliding, rafting, and so on.

✔ We can see a large number of the market selling fresh fruits and vegetables. So, it is considered one of the best places to visit in Machu Picchu.

 

  Moray  

✔ Moray is a beautiful archaeological site that is located in Machu Picchu, Peru. In the Quechua language, Moray is also known as Muray.

✔ The landmark of Moray was used for farming before. Moray is famous for its outstanding natural resources, renowned brands, world-famous coastlines, and high standard of living.

✔ Some of the places to visit around Moray are Brodie Castle, Elgin Cathedral, Moray Motor Museum, Bow Fiddle Rock, Duffus Castle, and so on.

✔ Around Moray, we can find small but beautiful shops. People are of a very frank and friendly nature. So, it is considered one of the best places to visit in Machu Picchu.

 

  Pisac  

✔ Pisac is a beautiful town that is located in Machu Picchi. The overall population of Pisac in 2002 is 9,796.

✔ Pisac is famous for its Incan ruins and large market which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cusco.

✔ We can see a large number of traditional houses and markets around this place. We can find a peaceful environment.

✔ People are in a very frank and friendly nature which makes people more comfortable visiting this place.

✔ Some of the places to visit in Pisac are Juchuy Coscco, Potato Park, ChocoMuseo Pisac, Mirador Taray, and so on.

✔ Pisac is considered one of the best places to visit in Machu Picchu.

 

  Ollantaytambo  

✔ Ollantaytambo is a beautiful city and archaeological site that is located in Machu Picchu, Peru. In the Quechua language, Ollantaytambo is also calledUllantaytampu “.

✔ It is one of the sacred valleys located in Peru. It is also considered an important religious, agricultural, and military center in Peru.

✔ It has been claimed that Ollantaytambo city was built during the Regin of Pachacútec (1418–1471).

✔ Some of the places to visit around Ollantaytambo are ALQA Museo de Arte Popular Andino, Sitio Arqueologico, Templo del Sol, Plaza de Armas de Ollantaytambo, and so on.

✔ We can find a very peaceful and warm environment around this city. So, Ollantaytambo is considered one of the best places to visit in Machu Picchu.

 

  Maras  

✔ Maras is a beautiful sacred valley that is located in Machu Picchu, Peru. People are of a very frank and friendly nature which makes us more comfortable visiting this place.

✔ Maras is famous for its salt evaporation ponds which are located towards Urubamba city.

✔ There is altogether 5,000 salts pond that is owned by different families and some are unused.

✔ Some of the places to visit around Maras are Abdul Hamid Han Mosque, Ulu Camii, Historic Bath Pit, Aslanbey Park, and so on.

✔ We can also walk around these salt ponds and watch the beautiful view. Most people claim that this place was Inca agricultural research station before. 

✔ Maras is considered one of the most famous and important places to visit in Machu Picchu.
